CPTP Interpreting Min Quals - WBT

This course will instruct participants on how to interpret minimum qualifications for education and experience when reviewing state job applications.

CPTP SCS Entry Guidelines

State Civil Service (SCS) developed this course to assist human resource professionals with selecting the appropriate LaGov HCM entry that corresponds to the SCS Rule that authorizes a personnel a ction. Accurate reporting in LaGov HCM allows SCS to evaluate agency personnel practices and ensure compliance throughout state government. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to: Navigate the LaGov HCM Entry Guidelines tool. Obtain the appropriate action and/or pay reason for basic personnel actions. Access resources that can assist with proper reporting of personnel actions in accordance with Chapter 15 of the SCS Rules.

Family Medical Leave Act - WBT

This course provides a basic overview of the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). The information provided in this course comes directly from the United States Department of Labor. After completing this course, you will be able to define FMLA, explain FMLA eligibility requirements, and summarize ways in which FMLA entitlement can be used.

FLSA - WBT

This course is an overview of the Fair Labor Standards Act designed to give the state employee a basic understanding of their rights and obligations under the law. After completion of this course, you will be able to explain the basics of the FLSA, explain overtime compensation as it applies to the FLSA, and contrast the differences between the nonexempt and exempt employee as it applies to the FLSA.

HR Civil Service Department Overview - WBT

This course will identify the various divisions within State Civil Service and help learners understand the functions of each division. INTENDED AUDIENCE: All Human Resources Professionals.

HR Civil Service Essentials - WBT

This course provides information about the history of Civil Service, the Human Resources role within Civil Service, and the importance of political activity rules. INTENDED AUDIENCE: All Human Resources Professionals.

HR Common Myths - WBT

This course examines a number of harmful, common myths that exist in the state government workforce. The course deconstructs these myths; and offers specific techniques to correct behavior resulting from these false beliefs. INTENDED AUDIENCE: All Human Resources Professionals.

HR Documentation and Grievances - WBT

This course serves as a guide to documentation standards and procedures and a brief overview on grievances. INTENDED AUDIENCE: All Human Resources Professionals.

HR Interviewing and Onboarding - WBT

This course provides HR professionals with tips for interviewing, orienting, and on-boarding new employees. INTENDED AUDIENCE: All Human Resources Professionals.

HR Leave Management - WBT

This course provides Human Resource Professionals tools and techniques to manage leave for an agency's employees. INTENDED AUDIENCE: All Human Resource Professionals.

C.H.R.P. Module 1: Staffing Considerations (1 Day)

This 1-day module will include a discussion of the constitutionally defined purpose of merit hiring, the benefits of different selection procedures, and an in-depth discussion of Chapter 22 and 23 rules.

This class is open to employees working in Human Resources positions only.

C.H.R.P. Module 2: Compensation/Pay Rules and Classification Issues (1 Day)

This 1-day module will include a review of the pay rules in Chapter 6 of the Civil Service rules and the classification issues in Chapter 5 of the rules.

This class is open to employees working in Human Resources positions only.

C.H.R.P. Module 3: Disciplinary Actions And Civil Service Appeals (1 Day)

This 1-day module will include information on how to take legal disciplinary actions, and an overview of the Civil Service rules regarding appeals and what an agency should know to win a Civil Service appeal.

This class is open to employees working in Human Resources positions only.

C.H.R.P. Module 4: LASERS Agency Training/RRM Workshop (1 Day)

This 1-day workshop taught by staff from LASERS will include updates and details associated with everything from enrollment of a member in the retirement system to guiding an employee through the retirement process. The curriculum will include changes in current legislation; enrollment information; contribution reporting; purchasing service credit; refund of contributions; survivor benefits; various types of retirement disability; early retirement, regular retirement, deferred retirement option plan (DROP) and initial benefit option IBO); eligibility requirements; and rehired retirees. It is recommended by LASERS that this workshop be attended annually.

This class is open to employees working in Human Resources and Payroll positions only.

HR Capstone Workshop (1 Day)

This 1-day instructor-led course is a part of the CPTP SCS Foundations for HR Professionals curriculum. It provides opportunities for HR Professionals to apply the theoretical knowledge gained in the online courses in realistic and practical activities and simulations. It is intended for HR professionals seeking to improve upon the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in a civil service environment.

Interaction with Inmates - WBT

This course defines the responsibilities and procedures of employees in regards to employee interaction with prison inmates. Upon completion of this course, you should understand the utilization of prison inmates, be aware of your responsibility as an employee, and be able to recognize prohibited inmate behavior.

Investigations - WBT

This course provides you with an overview of conducting investigations. This course includes printable resources that you may find useful. If you are investigating an official claim or incident, your agency policy should be followed carefully. This course is meant as a guide only. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to recognize pros and cons of workplace investigations, avoid common mistakes in workplace investigations, identify common types of workplace investigations, and implement key steps to successfully conduct workplace investigations.

Preventing Sexual Harassment - WBT

This course is designed to raise awareness regarding the prevention of sexual harassment. The course contains interviews with individuals who are considered field experts on the topic and prevention of sexual harassment. This course offers general knowledge of what could be considered sexual harassment along with practical steps that can be taken to prevent sexual harassment from happening in the workplace. This course also offers printable resources that can be used to assist with increasing awareness and/or responding to potentially sexually harassing situations. This course meets the 1 hour training requirement as outlined ACT 270 of the 2018 regular session.

Preventing Sexual Harassment for Supervisors - WBT

This course is designed to raise the awareness of supervisors regarding the prevention of sexual harassment. The course includes a self-assessment to help supervisors identify potential areas for improvement. The course also presents practical strategies supervisors can use to prevent sexual harassment in our workplace. This course meets the requirements for supervisors to receive training on preventing sexual harassment as required by ACT 270 of the 2018 regular session.

SCS Entry Guidelines/Reporting (1 Day)

This course is designed to serve as an introduction to the SCS Entry Guidelines and to provide guidance on how to audit agency data for SCS Rule compliance using LaGov HCM reporting techniques.

Staffing-LA Careers New User Training

This all day class is designed to provide human resources employees with basic information needed to work in the LA Careers Online Application System. Topics include the following: recruitment life cycle, creating a requisition, creating an exam plan, creating a job posting, processing applications, referring candidates, hiring candidates. Participants will work online in the system throughout the training.

Workforce Planning (1 Day)

This 1-day course reviews the workforce planning process. Participants will learn what workforce planning is and will work through exercises in which they will create a workforce plan.

Participants will learn how to:
- Create a demand and supply profile
- Perform a gap analysis
- Create, implement, monitor, and revise a workforce plan

This class is open to employees involved in creating their agency's workforce plan.
